WRC Gimmick Discussion
Hey, we’ve got a World Relief Campaign!
Now we need to plan a gimmick for the WRC. The Gimmick is the thing
that we do to encourage campus participation and chart our progress
toward our goal of $10k and recognize our givers.
Here’s our brainstorming so far. Weigh in with your ideas!
-country outlined on a board, for each contribution some piece of
medical equip.
-model clinic: put the kids on the building
-operation game
band aids=$5
major organs=major dollars
-heart monitor, EKG, IV bag (with Jesus?)
-syringe to monitor progress
-Big Aspirin jar (with side effects to recognize donors)
-video game hearts
-money=pills
-height chart: $=inches (with bricks) (colored bricks) scratch marks
on the height chart for each organization
finger paints on the height chart (hand prints)
-vitamins=money
-tree (with hands for leaves)
-a joli tree
some combination of the above
And the first two comments posted to the old site:
I like the medicine jar, but we did the peanut-butter jar last year,
and I really like the idea of putting different pieces together, like
in a game of Operation, or maybe building an over-sized First-Aid
kit, especially something that can lay flat but still be recognizable
as a non-ordinary thing, or maybe have all of the pieces of a model
clinic and build it as we get the money(walls, furniture, equipment,
people, etc.)so we have an obvious goal of pieces to put together and
a more obvious way to see what we still need?

I really like the game of operation idea. I’m picturing lots of
bandaids stuck all over it with people’s names on them, or maybe pick
your favorite cartoon character bandaid.
The syringe idea might work well in conjunction with any other as a
really clear indicator of overall progress – Something we kind of
missed the last couple of years, i think, where the filling up of the
gimmick was less clear.

the initials for "operation haiti" are "OH"
which is a fun interjection, and could look cool in a speech bubble or something. especially if our proposed game-of-operation character is saying it.
I like the operation game idea, just because most people think that game was fun and it lets us recognize smaller as well as bigger donors. It also may say something about the "body," making us think of the body of Christ, of which we are all an important part -- North Americans as well as Hatians -- plus we all have the same organs, no matter where we live, and they all need the same kind of medical care.
I also like the height charts idea to show maybe ten kids reaching an adult height. Because prenatal and pediatric care is so important in Haiti, this would show that our clinic would hopefully help kids survive their childhood and grow up healthy. This is also a good gimmick idea because people can clearly see the goal -- when we fill up all the height charts we've reached our goal.
I like the game of Operation. It is something that almost everyone on campus can relate to. To help moniter what the total amount is, we could put the syringe by the operation person.
We could abandon the operation game for the gimmick and make a TapTap bus instead. We could outline the colors on the bus and paint them as we receive donations from groups--we'd paint their name on the bus in that color area. We'd build the bus out of a refrigerator carton or something like that, start it off painted white with the color areas outlined and the name of the project the only area painted. Then we'd have complete connection with the tchotchke.
